Good Idea #5:
Signal Blocker

Back to the Good Ideas Database

What is the good idea?

These days, more people are addicted to their mobile phones than to drugs.

It's not uncommon to see a group of friends sitting at a bar or restaurant, each of them completely engrossed in their mobile phones, with no-one talking to each other. Where has the human interaction gone?

In fact, there is even a word for it - "phubbing" - and the anti-phubbing movement is starting to gain ground around the world.

Now Brazilian beer brand Polar has developed a beer cooler that actually blocks cell and mobile internet signals for up to 1.5 meters. When a bottle is kept in the cooler, it activates the signal blocker and temporarily renders nearly mobile devices useless. So now friends can enjoy each other's company the old-fashioned way.
